Need to make a change in your life? Empty nest? Retiring? Family issues? Divorce? Follow a passion instead of a job? All life is change. We all must adapt and grow.
I am the founder of the Vida Real Center (VRC). I am an introvert. I am NOT a recluse, socially awkward, I don’t hate people, and I am not a psychopath, although others tend to label me (and those like me) in such ways. I have lots of selected friends and I have a thriving career. I just need my alone time. Some of you will understand, others will still be frustrated by this common personality type.
I have always found most public events, seminars, workshops, and retreats — anything that lasts more than 12 hours or so — to be energetically exhausting. Yet, I wanted the support, knowledge, and interaction of the shared social connection those events provide. To fix that for myself, and others I knew with similar needs, I created VRC (find out more about the retreats and consulting services on VRC here).
The VRC retreats happen only 2-3 times a year and are designed to be both inspirational and supportive without intruding, for extended periods, into an individual’s personal space.
But more was needed, so I wrote the book. The No Woo-Woo Personal Retreat Book will be published Fall 2018. Pre-order here
The No Woo-Woo Personal Retreat Book is interactive. In other words, some things in the book will relate to a web page with additional resources you can download free and use during your personal retreat. Questions?
Wait. What is a personal retreat?
A personal retreat is a self-initiated retreat (a weekend is recommended). It is simply time to sit with yourself, without distraction, to reflect and renew. It is about creating time for yourself – time to think and consider goals and options and action plans or simply enjoy quiet time. It is the first phase of a season of transition. The book will guide you step-by-step.
How can that even happen? Doesn’t a retreat involve a guru of some sort and a standby onsite psychologist?
You are your own guru. You know yourself better than anyone and if you allow your higher consciousness to dig deep you can find the answers to all your own questions. However, if you feel you need a psychologist, by all means get one now. If you are seriously depressed, please get professional help. That said, I think many/most people are very capable of seeing themselves through the usual storms of human life. It’s all a matter of how you label your storm. We all have similar transitions to make. Some of us have past or current situations that may make some storms more difficult to weather. But it can be done.
The reality today is that, according to the DSM-5 (the bible of the mental health industry), most of us fall on a spectrum of some type of mental illness. Seriously, that is the accepted belief. Well, I don’t believe that. I believe there is far more capability inside your brain than you give yourself credit for. You can find ways out of your challenges. The problem is that most people want answers today — or at least this week — and that is unrealistic.
What is the book about?
The book is a guide to help you work through a new phase of your life or re-awaken and help you balance your life. It is written for a daily practice or a weekend of personal time. It will help you put some things in perspective and decide if these are things you want to change or learn to accept and adapt. Many of our issues are about re-framing how we think about them because some things cannot be changed — they are not in our control.
What does No Woo-Woo mean?
The book is not based on any form of religious ritual. You will not need to perform any ceremonies. It does not delve into prediction cards such as Tarot or Angels. It does not assume the need for ritual objects such as crystals. If you want to use any of these objects, do so. If they help you focus or serve as reminders, then use them. You will not need any special objects other than a journal and notebook (oh, and a pen or two). You will not need to create a visualization board or have any need for special artistic talents or the agility for a yoga headstand. You will not need to dance with the mysteries of your life or chant an OM. You will only give yourself two mental hugs. You will not need any glitter at all.
